Analytical Research and Development (ARD), at Pfizer R&D in Sandwich, UK plays a critical role in the research and development of new medicines in Pfizer’s exciting small molecule portfolio, and we are seeking an experienced and talented scientist who is keen to learn and has a passion for analytical science to join our exciting, vibrant group in Sandwich, UK.
Role responsibilities
-
Working within a project team of scientists producing quality analytical data and developing analytical control strategies for novel, innovative, breakthrough medicines in clinical development, including treatments for rare infectious disease, cancer and other life-threatening conditions.

Applying analytical techniques to complex problem-solving including liquid and gas chromatography, infra-red spectroscopy, mass spectrometry and NMR and providing technical guidance, coaching and mentorship to colleagues within their teams and across ARD and beyond.

Giving presentations, training and advice to others to share learnings and promote increased scientific, technical and strategic understanding around the area of analytical chemistry and pharmaceutical development.

Developing strategies for and executing regulatory filings for investigational and new drug applications.

Being a positive advocate for new technologies, process improvements and the application of computational tools and digital design approaches.
Job Focus

The successful candidate will have a passion for analytical chemistry and use their experience and broad knowledge to help project teams develop effective and robust analytical methodologies and phase appropriate control strategies. They will work in cross-functional project teams and work with partner lines from chemical and formulation development, regulatory, quality and commercial manufacturing.
Qualifications and experience
-
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemical Engineering or a related discipline with a high degree classification (e.g. equivalent of U.K. 1st or 2nd class) with significant relevant experience in the pharmaceutical industry, or a closely related industry.

Or a PhD degree in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemical Engineering, or a related field. Some relevant experience in the pharmaceutical industry, or a closely related industry, would be desirable but is not necessarily essential.
