Description
Company Overview
Fulcrum Therapeutics is a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company focused on improving the lives of patients with genetically defined rare diseases in areas of high unmet medical need. Fulcrum’s two lead programs in clinical development are losmapimod, a small molecule for the treatment of facioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy (FSHD) and FTX-6058, a small molecule designed to increase expression of fetal hemoglobin for the treatment of sickle cell disease and other hemoglobinopathies, including beta-thalassemia. The company’s proprietary product engine, FulcrumSeekTM, identifies drug targets that can modulate gene expression to treat the known root cause of gene mis-expression.
Description
Reporting to the Head of Hematology Discovery, the Scientist in Hematology will be a highly innovative and driven scientist who is dedicated to transforming the lives of patients living with hematological diseases. This individual will be responsible for identifying therapeutic hypothesis, executing experiments, managing multiple projects, and guiding strategy in the hematology therapeutic area. This diverse and fast-paced role will require cross-functional leadership and collaboration, leveraging both internal and external expertise. As an experienced scientist, the Scientist in Hematology is expected to lead and mentor in the lab, while maintaining strategic focus on critical go/no-go decisions.
Requirements
Responsibilities
- Lead projects in one or more hematological indications
- Evaluate new benign hematological indications and form therapeutic hypotheses anchored in modulating gene expression.
- Leverage disease biology and drug discovery expertise to validate targets and build pharmacological relationships across a diversity of fit-for-purpose pre-clinical models, building robust in vitro and in vivo pharmacology data packages.
- Interface with internal and external KOL networks for input on target hypotheses, models, and technologies
- Collaborate with high throughput biology, cell modeling, medicinal chemistry, and in vivo pharmacology to advance projects from hypothesis to IND-enabled programs.
Qualifications
- PhD in hematology related field with 1+ years industry experience
- Strong background in primary erythroid cell culture and/or iPSC derived erythroid cells.
- Experience developing and validating cell-based assays using both pharmacological and genetic perturbation (CRISPR/cas9, siRNA, etc.) methods.
- Experience performing experiments designed to validate targets, advance drug leads, and support our development programs.
- Experience and effectiveness working in a multidisciplinary team environment with common goals and operating in a matrixed environment is essential.
- High attention to detail, strong written and verbal communication skills, and ability to effectively collaborate across groups at all stages of projects.
